A set of cartoons for science nerds.

All of these originally appeared in New Scientist magazine, so obviously, the STEM level is quite high. A few of these are a bit too abstract, but many of these are genuinely hilarious. Most depict a high level of scientific understanding, so it would help if the reader also has a basic scientific knowledge, else the joke would be lost in the ether.

Much recommended to science enthusiasts with a sense of humour. Better if read at random than in one go.

You might assume that such a theme would get repetitive too soon. Yes, there were certain themes in common, primarily connected to love (or the lack thereof.) Regardless, each story still feels distinct from each other in terms of content and hence the book doesn’t get boring. A good short story for me is one that keeps me invested from start to end regardless of its length. And this is what happened to me for most of the stories in this collection. Yes, “love”, not “romance”! Interesting plots, multiple emotions, steady paced, beautiful endings ranging from sweet to bittersweet. Not corny or mushy as you might assume. Much recommended! I had misjudged this short story collection on initial glance, dismissing it as being cheesy romance tales. ( Very hasty and judgemental of me, I admit. No offence intended to readers of the genre. Everything in the book is beautiful, but also hurts. Interesting variety of characters, plenty of wisdom and quotable quotes, lyrical writing. The shifts in grammatical voice can get disconcerting at times. But the mellow, introspective narrative is great for the right mood. A commendable debut. Definitely recommended!
