A set of cartoons for science nerds.

All of these originally appeared in New Scientist magazine, so obviously, the STEM level is quite high. A few of these are a bit too abstract, but many of these are genuinely hilarious. Most depict a high level of scientific understanding, so it would help if the reader also has a basic scientific knowledge, else the joke would be lost in the ether.

Much recommended to science enthusiasts with a sense of humour. Better if read at random than in one go.

In a Nutshell: A brave choice of protagonist for this genre, as the leading lady pretty much drives the show in a ruthless and selfish way. The writing style, however, wasn’t a match to my reading preferences, and the somewhat clichéd approach in certain plot elements also reduced my enjoyment. A decent book, but I wanted more. Excellent atmosphere and lyrical writing. Dark and haunting. Much recommended. I've been a fan of this author ever since I read her story collection titled "The Clock in My Mother's House and Other Stories."  Since then, I've read three more of her works and enjoyed all of them. Safe to say that I now pick up an Annalisa Crawford work without even reading the blurb. A risky strategy, but with the right author, the reward is almost always assured. The first ever English manga adaptation of Lady Murasaki's “Tale of Genji”, acknowledged as the world's oldest known novel. The original book is supposed to be the oldest and most famous tale of romance in Japanese literature. The (alleged) author, Lady Murasaki Shikibu (pseudonym given to her at court; original name unknown) wrote this story around 1020 CE, some 500 years before Shakespeare. The introductory note by author Sean Michael Wilson is very helpful in getting the right background for the novel. It reveals that there are many translated versions of the original, and this manga takes inspiration from multiple versions rather than sticking to a single translation. After the super-interesting start, this absolutely didn’t go the way I expected it to. Too much of insta-love. OTT dialogues, absurd plot twists, and immature characters. I enjoyed this author’s first two novels but simply couldn’t connect with this one. This is an outlier review.
