Never ever expected that this would be among the books I read. I have a phobia against vampire stories. But this was a must because it is a classic, and the audio version did help a lot. 

Thoroughly enjoyed the book, though like some other reviewers said, its mood changes suddenly at around 25%. Stick with it and the whole narrative gets back on track soon after. 

Of course, it would have been far scarier to me if I had read it in my younger years, but as of now, I'm just happy I read it! :D

Interesting lead character, good story, great historical content. Quite gruesome in the war-related bits. A tad too convenient at times, and the romance subplot track annoyed me (as expected). Didn't get much of the poetic merit (no surprises there, given my lack of fondness for poetry), but liked the powerful message and the vibrant illustrations.
