Everyone has read books on the British elite. Here's one classic about the American elite. No matter which country, the thinking, the pseudo morality and the snobbery remains the same in the prudish elite of old who delight in gossip and scandals of others while trying to protect their own name. A very good read in spite of its age.

I liked that it was from the pov of a male character unlike most other books in this genre. The book provides an insight into the farcical lives of the Americans of those days who wanted to be independent of the British but ended up having the same attitude towards tradition.

"There's no way to be a perfect mother and a million ways to be a good one." - Jill Churchill The above quote sets off this anthology of twelve stories, all of which are about mothers. You might assume that such a theme would get repetitive too soon. Yes, there were certain themes in common, primarily connected to love (or the lack thereof.) Regardless, each story still feels distinct from each other in terms of content and hence the book doesn’t get boring. A good short story for me is one that keeps me invested from start to end regardless of its length. And this is what happened to me for most of the stories in this collection. Set in Japan and elsewhere. Relatable characters with realistic reactions, even when the situations are surreal. A good collection that somehow misses the oomph to make it great. Still, an entertaining enough read. This short story collection contains eighteen stories divided across two sections.
