You Are Home - Catana Chetwynd

Author: Catana Chetwynd

Series: Catana Comics #4
Genre: Sequential Art.
Rating: 4 stars

In a Nutshell: Cute!

The latest instalment from one of the cutest contemporary comic artists, Catana Chetwynd.

As always, this book chronicles her life with her fiancΓ© John and their connection with each other, with their pets and with their (limited) social circle. The central theme in this graphic novel, as the title suggests, is ‘home’. As Catana mentions in the author’s note, it is “a testament to the homey bond – both being at home together and finding home in each other.”

The comics are as adorable as always. Catana and John provide serious relationship goals through their amazing connection with each other, and this bonhomie is exuded throughout the book. Her comics are almost always relatable, whether to a great or a minor extent. I am not sure if it does complete justice to the “home” theme, but if you forget about that factor and just read it for the fun of it, you will definitely enjoy the joyride.

The illustrations are in typical Catana style, in B&W and with ample cuteness. If you are familiar with her work, you know what to expect.

The reason I didn’t go higher with my rating is that many of the comics were familiar to me. Of course, this is clarified on the back blurb, which says that the collection has 50% fan favourites and 50% new comics. As I follow the author’s page on Facebook, I knew most of the fan favourites. I did still enjoy them, but that freshness factor went for a toss.

If you would love a book about love, depicting a beautiful relationship where the partners seem to work so nicely in sync with each other, and have a few laughs along the way, this is a great choice. The physical book comes with stickers at the end.

My thanks to Andrews McMeel Publishing and Edelweiss+ for the DRC of “You Are Home”. This review is voluntary and contains my honest opinion about the book.
