Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls: 100 Inspiring Young Changemakers - Rebel Girls

Author: Rebel Girls

Genre: Children's Inspirational Nonfiction
Rating: 5 stars.

The best Rebel Girls book so far, by far, and that’s saying a lot!!!

If you aren’t aware of the Rebel Girls series and the revolution it has brought about in children’s biographical nonfiction, you have been missing out on a lot. I have read every single book of this series so far and even gifted a few copies to my kid’s friends. So believe me when I say, the Rebel Girls authors have outdone themselves this time even compared to their usual high standards.

The format is the same as the other books of the series. Each page contains a story-like biography of a young achiever on the left hand side, and an illustrated portrait of the woman on the right hand side along with a quote by her/them. As always, the illustrations are also drawn by women artists of various ages from around the world. One of the artists is just 11 years old!

Unlike the earlier books in series, all the girls/women featured in this book are contemporary, which makes a big difference in connecting with their achievement. The foreword by Bindi Irwin sets the right tone for the content. This edition features some countries that have never featured before in a Rebel Girls book, such as Denmark, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, and Liechtenstein. The book includes a range of young women achievers from disparate fields such as music, STEM fields, extreme sports, environment, food, gaming and fashion. The issues covered include mental health, body positivity, environmental awareness, dyslexia awareness, refugee crisis, online security and many more. There is LGBTQIA+ rep through the inclusion of trans women. The inclusivity also extends to women with physical and developmental disabilities.  What more do you want when you are looking for the right role models as well as the right inspiration for your children?

Are you still confused about whether I am recommending this or not? YES, I AM RECOMMENDING IT! Go and buy it for every child you know, regardless of gender. (Heck, you too read it. God knows there’s enough of negativity in our lives nowadays about the world. Books like this can help somewhat relieve our minds about the future.)

5 rainbow-coloured stars.

My thanks to Rebel Girls and NetGalley for the DRC of “Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls: 100 Inspiring Young Changemakers”. This review is voluntary and contains my honest opinion about the book.
