Doggie - Nancy Armo - ★★★★

AUTHOR: Nancy Armo
GENRE: Children's Picture Book
PUBLICATION DATE: June 14, 2022
RATING: 4 stars.

A sweet story for teeny animal lovers.

Written in the first person of a little boy, he yearns for a dog with all his heart. Unfortunately, his mom refuses to have one as dogs need a lot of care. One rainy night, a cat appears at their house, and when they can’t find its owner, Mom decides to adopt it. Our hero is, of course, very disappointed, at this turn of events. But he has a brainwave. He name the cat “Doggie” and tries training it to be a dog. We all can guess how this goes! Will the boy and “Doggie” be able to make each other happy?

The story provides a nice idea of managing expectations and disappointment, while also touching upon the difference between cats and dogs.

The illustrations are charming and fun.

The book is written in very simple prose, thus making it easy reading for its target age group of 4 years plus. It will also work for younger readers if read aloud.

My thanks to Clavis Publishing and NetGalley for the DRC of “Doggie”. This review is voluntary and contains my honest opinion about the book.
