The Dragon That Never Was - Timothy S. Currey

Author: Timothy S. Currey

Genre: Fantasy Novella
Rating: 4.75 stars.

In a Nutshell: Damsels and dragons! What more can you want? Go for it!

Story:
Kleia lives on an amazing island where every girl receives a dragon egg when she comes of age. Kleia has been eagerly waiting for her own dragon as she is passionate about the creatures. Soon, the happy day arrives and Kleia feels like she is about to fulfil her destiny. But destiny has other plans for her.

Why you SHOULD read this book:
1. An all-female character list. Go girls!

2. An all-female cast written amazingly by a male author. No clichéd physical descriptions, no needless sexual references. Just beautiful, clean and respectful writing. (Special bonus points for having a strong female blacksmith in the cast!)

3. Dragons!!!! So many dragons! Astounding dragons! Gimme more dragons!

4. The metaphorical elements in the story. Without going into it outright, the story covers motherhood, grief, hope and joy. I simply loved the blend.

5. Did I say dragons?

6. It’s just 72 pages long and thus can be completed in an hour.

7. Don’t forget the dragons!

8. The title hinted at what might happen in the plot. But I never guessed how beautifully it would be woven together.

9. The characters are carved so well, I can’t believe this was a novella.

10. You guessed it. Dragonnnnnssss!!!

4.75 dragon-scale-shiny stars. Docking off 0.25 because I wanted to keep on reading it. But it stopped after 72 pages. Drat!

PS: Just in case it isn't clear, I love dragons! 😌

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author through ‘StoryOrigin’ and these are my honest thoughts about it.
